Geneviève Gallant

Geneviève Gallant est une jeune artiste montréalaise originaire de la banlieue de Montréal. Elle étudié en Beaux-Arts à l’université Concordia, concentration sculpture et céramique. Active dans le milieu de l’art contemporain depuis 2005, elle a participé à une vingtaine d’expositions et d’événements artistiques. L’année 2009 a été importante pour elle, car elle a présenté sa première exposition individuelle, terminé son bac et entrepris un voyage en Europe durant lequel elle a fait une résidence d’artiste en Allemagne avec un groupe de finissants de Concordia et a assisté à la biennale de Venise. Afin de mieux s’outiller en tant qu’artiste professionnelle elle a suivi une formation de lancement d’entreprise en 2010. Puis, elle fonda un atelier de céramique partagé; Atelier Alterre. Cet espace permet aux artistes en début de carrière d’avoir accès à un atelier et des équipements spécialisés pour le travail de l’argile. Maintenant son matériau principal est définitivement la céramique, mais elle n’hésite pas à combiner plusieurs médiums pour exprimer les idées qui l’animent.

Geneviève Gallant is a young Montreal artist from the suburbs of Montreal. Although she always had an interest in visual arts, it has considered a career in this field only after in the program of visual arts Cégep Édouard-Montpetit in 2003. She continued her artistic training at the Bachelor of Fine Arts at Concordia University. At university, she focused in the disciplines of sculpture and ceramics. Active in the contemporary art field since 2005, she participated in about twenty exhibitions and artistic events. The year 2009 was important to her, as she presented her first solo exhibition, completed her bachelor's degree and traveled in Europe for two months during which she participated in an artist residency in Germany with a group of Concordia graduates and attended the Venice Biennale.
Over the past 8 years, she traveled regularly to see other cultures and contemplate hundreds of artworks that influenced art history. She visited China, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and several destinations in the United States. She attended the international ceramic conference organized by NCECA twice.
In order to better equip herself as a professional artist she has received training in business startup in 2010. That same year, she established a shared ceramics studio; Atelier Alterre. This studio allows emerging artists to have access to a studio and specially equipped for working with clay. Now her main sculptural material is definitely ceramics, but she does not hesitate to combine different mediums to express her ideas.
